About me

Who's the monkey in the Monkey Room?

This is what happens when you give a monkey a paint brush and lock him in a room. My name is Michael Mimms. I am an AP Literature and Composition teacher by day, but by night, when the kids are in bed, I descend into the Monkey Room and draw into the wee hours of the morning. I work in a variety of media: pen and ink, ink wash, watercolor, pencil, and Copic markers.

I have been drawing for years, but it wasn't until my children were born that I started doing it seriously. Much of the art that I do is for their rooms. Several of my friends and colleagues saw my art and encouraged me to sell prints of it. So far, I have appeared at two North Texas Comic Book shows, Arling-Con, and Dallas Fan Expo Days. All money I have made from selling my prints goes toward my children. I love the thought that my artistic creations goes toward my two best creations.

I am currently working on a comic book, The Wizard and The Warrior. I hope to have the first issue completed this year. I'm also mulling over writing and illustrating a children's book. I'm also working on a series of dinosaur prints, doing commissions, and trying to improve my artistic capabilities.
